The ranked map uses rounded estimates of first and second language speakers. Broader audience measures are recorded separately so different definitions are not mixed into one ranking.
Publishing reach
Official audience studies report almost 636 million potential Spanish speakers and 396 million Francophones. Those broader measures inform publishing strategy but do not replace the comparable map figures.
Progressive release
The wider research register remains private while language identities, population figures and delivery requirements are reviewed. Approved records can be released without rebuilding the map.
